Sydney Trains is one of the most economical, reliable and convenient ways to travel throughout Sydney and its surrounds.

Our network, the NSW Trains Intercity Network, covers suburban Sydney and extends to the Hunter, Central Coast, Blue Mountains, Southern Highlands and South Coast regions.

The network is made up of several colour-coded lines. Trains from different lines can share the same platform, so check display screen and listen to announcements.

Ticket prices are generally based on the distance travelled. Visit transportnsw.info for details.

Getting to the City

In Sydney, if you’re near a train station, you’re on your way to the City. Every rail line leads directly or indirectly to the City Circle. It’s the railway around the central business district of Sydney. Most City stations are underground so look out for the signs on street level.

Automatic ticket gates

Large stations have automatic gates for entry to, and exit from, the station. If you have an Opal card or a ticket which has a magnetic stripe you must use the automatic gates. You may use the wide gate for wheelchair, baby carriage or luggage access. Station staff will assist you.

NightRide buses

Most trains do not operate between midnight and 4:00am. For your convenience a special NightRide bus service is available between these hours on most Sydney suburban lines.

Trackwork

In order for the tracks to be maintained, we sometimes have to replace trains with buses, particularly at weekends. Please check the trackwork section for the latest service changes on your line.

Researchers from the team of civil engineering, Universiti Teknologi MARA in Malaysia have successfully developed an environmentally friendly version of building concrete called green-mix concrete.

In this project, researchers introduced a green concrete that is designed and made using conventional materials but partly replaced with suitable waste and recycled materials to achieve acceptable performance, finance and sustainability (可持续性). Green concrete is made of new raw materials.

When it comes to building structures, developers and officials have the advantage of choosing from a wide range of materials to use. Generally, the decision on material choice depends on several factors including cost and performance for specific applications.

Due to growing interest in sustainable development and various pushing measures provided by the Government of Malaysia, the key players in the construction industry are motivated more than ever before to use materials that are sustainable or in such a way that their environmental impact is minimal.

In 2009, the Malaysian government initially started the Green Building Index (GBI) to encourage the construction of buildings using green technology, and introduced pushing measures for owners to obtain the GBI certificate for new or existing buildings. There have also been efforts to reduce air pollution and concrete has an important role to play.

The new concrete can be produced using waste materials as one of its components. Green concrete can also be developed using various production processes that are not harmful to the environment. The use of recycled or waste materials can be considered sustainable as they can lower costs and raw materials.

24. Which of the following best describes green-mix concrete?

A. Low carbon and costly.

B. Green and fashionable. D. Sustainable and conventional. B. Developers. D. The Government of Malaysia. C. Money-saving and sustainable. A. Researchers. 25. The choice of building materials is mainly decided by ______. C. Certificate owners.

26. What can we learn about green-mix concrete?

A. Traditional materials are not used to produce it.

B. Building developers show no interest in the new material.

C. The Malaysian government has contributed to its development.

D. The production processes are not environmentally friendly at all.

27. Where is this text probably taken from?

A. Entertainment.

Recently, my teenage son gave me a great insight into my writing career (职业). He plays the online multiplayer game Minecraft, in which players build vast structures while battling the occasional zombie at night.

“How do you win the game?” I asked him.

He rolled his eyes, the way only teens can.

“There is no winning the game, mom,” he said. “It’s about the experience. It’s all about the journey.”

Well said, Evan. I so often forget this truth.

In writing, there is no arriving. There’s always the drive to write a better article, blog post, poem, or novel next time. There is no “done”.

What sights do you want to see on your journey? Where do you want to be sure to go? These are the questions I’m asking myself as I consider my plans for next year.

If we’ve written well, what we leave behind will be part of the things for our younger generations, hopefully helping others long after we’re gone. I find that thought comforting.

You could make your way to new signatures in magazines, or even to new places on the map. I have a friend who was flown to Denmark to meet with Lego because they liked his writing. I recently read about a woman whose writing got her a position in Singapore from Coca-Cola.

So here’s to a writing journey for all of us that’s full of splendid sights, unexpected turns, wonderful friends, and opportunities to grow.

As we enter the new year, I’m going to try to remember my writing-career focus — the places I want to be sure to visit on my way. Most of all, I’m going to work on setting free my feelings of “falling behind” or not being “there” yet, and try to enjoy every moment of my wonderful writer’s life.
