I wonder how many accidents I‟ve had in my life. I‟ve had a few serious ones where I‟ve ended up in hospital. Traffic accidents are the worst. They‟re always painful. I haven‟t had too many work-related accidents. I suppose that‟s because I do office work and that‟s not so dangerous. Most of my accidents are those around the house. I‟ve lost count of the number of times I‟ve hit my thumb with a hammer. I‟m also really good at standing up and hitting my head on something. I‟m not as bad as my friend though. He‟s a real accident looking for somewhere to happen. Almost every time we meet, he has some story to tell about his latest accident. He‟s quite unbelievable. I think I‟d be very worried if I were his mother.

They get paid huge amounts of money to do what they love doing. My favourite actors are all dead now. I really like the actors in the old black and white movies. They all looked so cool. Actors in the old days seemed to be more glamorous than today‟s actors. The best thing about being an actor is that all of your friends are famous too.

What is advertising? Is it telling the truth or is it making things look better than they really are? Or is it lying? Companies pay a lot of money for adverts. Some of the ads you see in glossy magazines look like art. The commercials on TV look like mini movies. Do they really change our behaviour? Do adverts make you buy things? I think some advertising is a form of lying. Is BMW really “The ultimate driving machine” like they say in their ads? British Airways used to say they were “The world‟s favourite airline,” but had to stop saying it because it wasn‟t true. Personally, I get tired of watching ads on television. They always interrupt a good programme. I like ads in magazines. They‟re usually quite interesting.

I don‟t know what I would do without my friends‟ advice. They‟ve all given me so much good advice over the years. It‟s sometimes very difficult to make decisions on your own. Listening to advice can be great for helping you make the right decision. The greatest piece of advice I‟ve received was from my father. He told me I can do anything in life if I try hard. He was right. I am now passing on his advice to my own children. Right now I need some advice on money. My financial advisors are telling me to be very careful. That‟s very sound advice. I would advise anyone to do the same. Someone asked me the other day about the worst piece of advice I‟ve ever had. I couldn‟t answer. I don‟t think I‟ve had any really bad advice.

Airplanes are amazing. How does something so big and heavy get off the ground? I‟m always amazed at how the millions of different parts work together. Travelling by airplane is always a wonderful experience. I don‟t care whether economy class is cramped and has no space. I like playing with the in-flight entertainment system, especially now they have all the latest movies. I also love airplane food. Many of my friends say it‟s disgusting, but I love it. I often ask the passenger next to me if I can have the dessert or roll they don‟t want. The only thing I don‟t like about planes is turbulence. When the airplane hits those air pockets, I always worry we‟ll crash. But I once read that turbulence has never caused an airplane to crash.
Aren‟t airports strange places? There‟s so much happening in them. People coming, people going; people crying with sadness because they‟re going away, people crying with joy because they‟ve arrived. Big airports are almost like small towns. It seems like you walk across a town by the time you check in and get to your departure gate. The thing I like most about airports is people watching. There are people from all over the world. I also like how everything fits and works together. You check your luggage in and then it disappears, before you see it again at the next airport. I still think airports need improving. There‟s not a lot to do there. Airports really need to have an entertainment area so people can kill time.

I hate alcohol. I really don‟t understand how or why people drink it. The smell of alcohol on people‟s breath is disgusting. It‟s expensive and it gives you a bad headache. I drank when I was much younger, but I haven‟t touched a drop for years. I hated hangovers so I decided to stop drinking altogether. I have a much better time without alcohol. people say they need to drink to relax. They drink and just act and look stupid. Their face goes red and they can‟t walk in a straight line. Alcohol is also the most damaging drug in society. That‟s what I think, anyway. Alcohol causes many illnesses, traffic accidents, fights and domestic violence. If you banned alcohol, people would be healthier, richer and have a better family life.
第8课：aliens
There are aliens out there, somewhere. I strongly believe this. Not sure what they look like, though. I really doubt they are green, like they are in science fiction movies. I also don‟t think they look like us. But I‟m sure they exist. I just don‟t think we‟ll ever see any or find any. They live too far away. If you think about it logically, there has to be aliens out there. All a planet needs is to be warm and have water and life will exist. There are billions and billions of planets in the universe, so there are probably millions and millions that have life. Alien life. It‟s also likely that some of the aliens are much more intelligent than we are. I wonder what we‟d do if really intelligent aliens visited Earth. What would we ask them?

I‟m a real animal lover. I‟m fascinated by the whole animal kingdom. I loved animals when I was a kid. I used to read every book I could find on animals. I knew all the different animal species. The most exciting thing for me was going to the zoo. I would spend hours just watching the animals walk around, sit, or even sleep. When I was older, I went on a safari to Tanzania. I saw real wild animals in the wild. Everyone should do this once in their lives. Looking at animals in their natural habitat is a real honour. Now I‟m worried about the future of many animals. Some of my favourite animals are in danger of dying out. We really need to change our lifestyle so our children can have the chance of seeing animals in the wild.

I‟m not the world‟s biggest fan of banks. I‟ve had too many bad experiences of them. I really don‟t know how they can advertise and say they look after you. They don‟t. Bank charges are way too high; you spend ages waiting to be served; and then they say no if you want a loan. The bank I bank with makes dozens of mistakes with my account. The thing they‟re best at is making excuses. I‟m not at all surprised so many banks did badly in the credit crisis. I hope they change. Bankers get far too much money. All they do is desk work. Banks need to focus a lot more on real customer service. At the moment banks only offer an excuse for customer service. They don‟t even offer you a drink when you sit down and open an account.

I‟m a great art lover. I look at beautiful paintings and sculptures and wish I could be artistic. I can‟t draw or paint to save my life. I wonder why some people are so talented and can create amazing pictures, when other people, like me, can‟t even draw good matchstick figures. I would like to fill my house with art from all over the world. It‟s interesting to see how different cultures have different kinds of art. There‟s nothing better than visiting art galleries when you go to another
museum but can‟t see how it‟s art. I always laugh when my children say, “Daddy, I can do better than that!” I often think they can.

Autumn is such a cool time of the year. Of course it is cool because the temperatures drop after summer. But it is also cool because it‟s such a great time of the year. I love the changing of the leaves. The different autumn colours are one of nature‟s most beautiful scenes. Sometimes I can‟t stop looking at the mountains near my house. They are like an artist‟s palette of golds, reds, yellows, browns and other autumnal colours. In America they call autumn „fall‟ because that is when the leaves fall from the trees. I like the coolness of autumn. Summer is over but you can still wear a T-shirt – just about. You can also spend hours outdoors without sweating. Autumn is the best time of the year to go hiking and go for long walks.

Most people know the word 'avatar'. Perhaps we all saw the movie with the same name. Avatars are becoming a normal part of our life. Well... I should say our online life. Almost everywhere you go on the Internet you see avatars. Sometimes it's a website asking you to make an avatar, and other times it's people's real avatars. Do you have one? Or two, or three? I see a lot of avatars that are kind of cute and look like Japanese anime. One of the most popular things is to choose an animal as an avatar. I always take a long time to choose my avatar. It's important to make one I really like. It has to be funny. I also like avatars that move. All of the best avatars I've seen move. They are usually very funny, and clever.

I loved babysitting when I was younger. It was a really easy way to make money. All I had to do was sit in my neighbour‟s house and look after the kids. That was the easy bit, because the kids were usually asleep in bed. The parents would give me a lot of money for watching DVDs and eating snacks. When I was even younger, I liked it when my babysitter came round. She would always play games with us and let us stay up late. She would send us to bed just before my parents came home. I know in some countries, babysitting isn‟t so common. It isn‟t part of the culture. I suppose that‟s not such a bad thing. I read a lot in the papers nowadays about babysitters hitting the children because they don‟t sleep. That‟s really bad.

Young people don‟t think listening to loud music on the train is a bad habit. In Japan, slurping your noodles is a sign that you enjoy your food, but making a noise while eating in England is not good. Have you ever tried to break your bad habits? I have quit smoking and have stopped leaving things laying around the house. I wish other people would stop their bad habits. I get annoyed when people are late for meetings or talk loudly on their phones in public. I also think many motorists need to think about their driving habits. Perhaps I should point out their bad habits.

Bath time is pretty much the only time of the day when you can really pamper yourself. It also means a lot of quality time to yourself. It’s perfect for listening to music and reading a good book. Why do we think some things or some people are beautiful and others aren’t? Some people think a building is beautiful, while others think the opposite. People nowadays spend too much time and money on beauty. I agree with the expression, “beauty is only skin deep”. This means that what’s really important is someone’s heart and character, not what they look like on the outside. It’s a little strange, and unfair, that you have to be beautiful to be a top actress or even a news reader on TV. I think there should be equal rights for most of us “non-beautiful” people.

Millions of people are afraid of something that the rest of the world thinks is quite normal. How can you be afraid of things like peanut butter? There’s actually a fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of your mouth. Amazing. Fear is sometimes good. It makes us alert and can keep us safe in a dangerous situation.

It’s impossible for me to watch operations on TV. I wish I could donate blood to others. I can’t. I know giving blood is really important, but I’m not brave enough. 1. English writing ---I writin at least two compositions every week, covering different kinds of theme.
I have learned to use different language styles in diverse compositions. To my knowledge, writing a successful compositions needs strong English abilities. The most difficult thing for me in the high school is write a english composition , but now I can see, but I can manage it easer. little incident, when I write g them a second time , I found I can use words and phrases more fluency.
2 English speech contest, I participated in a small English speech contests, which is held by the the English committee.through this contest,I realized that I have many mispronunciations. The teacher corrected my poor pronunciation more than once. Undoubtedly,I got no award.
3 recite English words……I have recited at least 5000 word in this semester, which is also prepared for the following College English Test Band Six.i know this is not enough,I am continue to recite.
4 term project complete all the tasks individually.it’s a opportunity for me to develop my writing skills as well.
5presentation make a presentation about my favorite sport table tennis. I still remember the wrong pronunciations which is pointed by the可 teacher.i will pay more attention on it.

Problem
getting rid of Chinese accent for my is so difficult that I am at my wit's end. I always try to overcome laziness,which is the the enemy of English study. there wasn't a very productive method. As far as I am concerned, dissimilar words with the same meaning should be used in different situation.but I can’t certainly differentiate it.
Conclution
There are no secrets toquickly . It is the result of preparation, hard work, learning from failure

1、现在进行时
Look, Listen是标志，现在进行正发生；
有时now在句中现，“be＋v－ing”时态成。
若问be用何形式，须看主语数、人称。
三单is我am,你和复数are紧随 (即：He ／ She is, I am． We, you, they后are紧跟)。 v－ing形式更好记，三种构成要分清。
一般问句be提前，be后not否定成！
2、一般现在时
一般现在时态中，动词一般用原形。
表述事实讲真理，习惯动作常发生。
动词词尾加－s(es)，只表单数三人称。
若变一般疑问句，得看句型是哪种。
系表结构和there be, be放句首即完成；
若遇实义动词句，do或does莫忘记！
3、一般过去时
肯定句的过去式。
规则动词加ed，
不规则的必须记。
否定形式疑问句，
没有be加did。
如把did加在前，
动词还要归原形。
4、基数词变序数词
基变序，很容易，一二三，特殊记，th从四起。八去t来九去e，遇到ve，f替，ty 变为tie，后加th莫迟疑，若想表示几十几，只变个位就可以。
5、时间介词巧记歌
年、月、季节前用in， （如：in 2008, in September, in spring）
日期前面行不通。
遇到几号或星期
改用on来做代替， (如：on January 1，on Wedesday)
上午、下午、晚上仍用in。 (如：in the morning／afternoon／evening)
若是某日上下午，也是用on才能行。 (如：on the evening of the Mid－autumn Day) 正午、夜里用at， (如：at noon, at night)

6、特殊的形容词、副词的比较级、最高级
一分为二是三个， (指同一个形容词原形但是有两种比较级和最高级形式) 两个“远”“来”一个“老”。
合二为一共三对 （指：两个单词的比较级和最高级完全相同）
“坏、病”两“多”并两“好”。
还有一词双意含， (指原形表示“小的、少的”，但是比较级和最高级却只表示“较\最少的”
只译“少”来不译“小”。
解释：
两个“远”“来”一个“老”。
即：far 分别为： far: farther表“距离\较远的” farthest
further表“程度”上的：“进一步的” furthest；
late 分别为：later 表时间上\较远的，相距较长的 latest
latter 表顺序上的后者 last
old 分别为： older表“实际的年龄、较大的” oldest
elder表“长幼辈分、较高的” eldest
“坏、病”两“多”并两“好”。
即：bad/ill—worst—worst；many/much—more—most； good/well—better—best 只译“少”来不译“小”。
即：little—less(较少的，比„少的)——lest（最少的）
7、比较等级的运用
原级用在as„as间，
比较级用在than前。
and连接两个比较级，
说明“越来越怎样”。
三者以上最高级，
副词前可不加the。
Even, much和a little，
也常修饰比较级。
8、宾语从句
宾语从句三要素，
引导词、语序、时态。
引导词分三情况，
陈述句that可省略。
一般疑问句if或whether。
碰到特殊疑问句，
疑问词来担此任。
语序总体为主谓。
疑问词从句主语，
语序不必去改变。
从句时态主句定，
如果主句是过去，
从句相应作改变，
客观真理仍现在。
9、be的几个顺口溜
(1)我用am，你用are，单三is复数are。
(2)I用am，you用are，非I非you是is，复数全部都用are。
(3)代词主格的顺口溜：
I是我来we复数，你和你们都用you；
he，she，it男、女、它，复数一律把they用。
10、规则动词变为过去式
口诀：“一改、二多、三少、四刚好”
即有规则的一般过去时的动词，
“一改”，以“y”结尾,把“y”去掉改为“i”再加“ed”，如：“study”→“studied”； “二多”，重读闭音节结尾的动词，双写末尾辅音字母再加“ed”，如：“stop”→“stopped”； “三少”，以不发音“e”字母结尾的动词，可直接加上“d”,如：“live”→“lived”； “四刚好”,就是直接加上“ed”，如：“work”→“worked”。
11、冠词a, an, the
a，an，the是冠词，就像帽子扣名词；
元音因素要扣an，辅音因素要扣a；
an／a用来泛泛指，the是特指常牢记。
12、冠词用法
（1）、定冠词的用法
特指双熟悉，上文已提及；
世上独一个，序数最高级；
某些专有名，习语及乐器。
以上口诀归纳了用定冠词的7种一般情况，即：
①特指某些人或物 ②谈话双方都熟悉的人或事 ③上文已经提到的人或事 ④世界上独一无二的事物前 ⑤序数词或形容词最高级前 ⑥某些专有名词前 ⑦一些习惯短语（如：in the day等）中和乐器前（如：play the violin / piano）。
（2） 不用冠词的几种情况
下列情况应免冠，代词限定名词前；
专有名词不可数，学科球类三餐饭；
复数名词表泛指，两节星期月份前；
颜色语种和国名，称呼习语及头衔。
以上口诀主要概括了一般应“免冠”的几种情况，即：
①名词前已有作定语用的this、that、some、any、my等限定词。②专有名词和不可数名词前。③表示学科的（如：maths、Chinese、physics）名词前。④球类活动的名词前及三餐总称前。⑤复数名词表示泛指（一类人或事）时。⑥节日、季节、星期、月份前。⑦表示颜色（如：It's red / yellow.）、语种（如：speak English/Japanese）和国家的非全称名词（如：We live in China. They come from America.）。⑧在称呼或表示头衔的名词前（如：Doctor
Wang）。⑨某些习惯短语中（如：in bed、go to school等）。
13、be 的用法口诀
我用am，你用are，is连着他，她，它；
单数名词用is，复数名词全用are。
变疑问，往前提，句末问号莫丢弃。
变否定，更容易，be后not莫忘记。
疑问否定任你变，句首大写莫迟疑。
14、巧记：只接不定式作宾语的一些常用特殊谓语动词
动词只接不定式，
不能“ 假装”去“管理” （假装pretend ，管理manage）

18、英语中“分数”的表达法巧记
英语分数不费事，“母序子基”四个字。
分子若是大于1，分母则须加-s。
19、巧妙区分long before 和before long
long 在前（long before），“很久前”，
long在后(before long)，“不久后”。
20、巧记：以-o结尾加-es的名词
歌词：两人两菜一火山

22、before和ago巧记
before“点”之前，ago“段”之后。
before时态不确定，过去时中用ago。
备注：Before用在一个具体的“时间点”之前，表示“在„之前”，如：before 3:00；ago用在一个具体的“时间段之后”，表示“在这个‘时间段’之前”，如：long time ago.

1. What are you up to? 你正在做什么？
假设你在办公室想跟同事沟通下工作情况，又怕耽误对方的工作，就可以先问同事"In the middle of something?"(你在忙吗？)如果对方回答"Kind of."(算是吧。)这时你就可以继续你的谈话了，比如可以做一下谈话前的“热身”，问对方："What are you up to?"(你最近在忙什么啊？)，然后再展开你想沟通的话题。
另外美国人见面时常用的问候语"What’s up?"就与"What are you up to?"在意思方面很接近，都是问“你最近在做什么啊？”但是需要注意一点：语气的不同所表达的意思也不相同，比如你发现在未经你允许的情况下，别人正在你的办公桌上乱翻，就可以过去责问他"What are you up to?"(你正在搞什鬼？)。除此以外"What are you up to?"还有其他意思，比如你的同事正在完成某个项目，你就可以说"What are you up to?"(目前进展如何？)当然"What are you up to?"与"What are you doing?"意思基本相同，可相互取代，但是多变的表达方式会令你在工作期间的交流中显得更加出彩。
2. In the middle of something? 你正在忙吗？
在上面已经提到了In the middle of something? (你正在忙吗？)这句话，惯用的说法是"Are you busy?"，但是死啃一种说法显然过于单一化，把眼界放广一点，对于同一个概念要有不同的变化。如果你经常用"Are you busy?"，不妨换成"In the middle of something?"，因为这句
话的意思更为准确，比较接近于"Are you busy right now?"(现在是不是正在忙？)而"Are you busy?"的含意不仅可以解释为“现在是不是正在忙？”也可指“最近忙不忙？”。如果你除了"Are you busy?"之外，还懂得用"In the middle of something?"相信别人一定不会小看你的英文能力。
3. Maybe I’m going out on a limb, but I think we still have to invest it. 或许这么作有点冒险， 但我想我们还是要投资它。
提到冒险，一般人会想到用 "It’s risky" 或 "It’s dangerous." 但是囗语上美国人喜欢说 "I’m going out on alimb." 来表示这件事需要冒险。“limb”原意是指树枝，想象当你爬树时爬到小树枝上去了，你是不是不知小树枝什么时候会断掉？这种不确定的危机感，就是为什么美国人要用 "Go out on a limb." 来表示冒险的原因了。
4. “Please give us your comments. ”请多提宝贵意见。
通常在会议或商务洽谈结束时，中方的人出于客套或者希望让对方提出自己的建议，总是爱把“请多提宝贵意见”挂在嘴边，但是如果只按词面意思进行翻译，麻烦很容易就会来了。比如直译为：“Please give us your valuable comments。”，那么很可能对方会认为你在暗示他：你的意见应该是valuable的，否则就请“免开尊口”。正确的译法应该是：“Please give us your comments。”或“We welcome your comments. ”这样对方才会把想提的建议痛快地说出来。
5. Probably. It’s still up in the air. 大概吧。不是太确定。
在工作中也许你会遇到这样的情况：自己已经很努力了，但是项目仍没有太大进展，或是上司迟迟不给予支持。这时或许有人会出于关心问你“项目有起色没？”但面对自己不能掌握的事情，显然没法回答这个问题，只能听天由命。这时你就可以回答“It’s still up in theair。” 另一种情况就是与别人约会时被熟人撞上，私下里别人问起是否在谈恋爱时，你也可以小小地卖下关子说： "It’s up in the air." (八字还没一撇呢！) 其他的同义句还有： "I haven’t decided yet."及"I haven’t made my mind yet."等。
6. That’s OK. 不用了。
不要小看这个简单句子的用途，因为很多人把"That’s OK." 和 "OK."误认为意思相同，但实际上这两个句子的意思完全不同。如果有人问你需不需要某物或做某事，你回答 "That’s OK." 就是“不要”的意思，而答 "OK." 是“要”的意思。当别人说 "That’s OK."时，就有"I’m fine." (我很好，你不用操心)的意思，言下之意就是“你不用麻烦了，我会照顾我自己” 。所以要记住， "That’s OK." 其实有
“没关系，无所谓”的意思，所以如果你想很坚定地拒绝别人准备递过来的饮料，可以说 "That’s OK. I don’t need anything to drink."
7. He’s out for lunch. 他出去吃午餐了。
在同事出去吃饭的时候，他办公桌上的电话刚好响起，这时你该跟对方说什么？如果按照中文的词面意思翻译成"He went out for lunch."是不符合美国人的沟通习惯的，通常他们都会说“be out for something”，套用一下就是"He is on lunch." 如果别人要找的人不在工位上，但是你也不知道他去了哪里，还可以用try again/ call again或call back/ try back 的说法。还可以建议别人“Why don’t you call back in 10 minutes?“ (你为什么10分钟后再打来呢？)或者请对方留言“May I take your message?(你可以留言吗？)
8. “You’re in the pink !”你的气色真好！
如果同事或上司近来工作格外顺利，往往人逢喜事精神爽，气色也会跟着变好，这时如果夸赞一下对方，会给人留下不错的印象。要想说人“气色好”。“you look fine !”当然不错，可如果你说”you’re in the pink !”就更妙了。在英语口语中，表示颜色的词用起来非常形象生动形象。
9. Just right place, right time. 只不过是“天时地利”而已。
如果意外得到了一个令人羡慕的美差，大多数的人都会直接反应出lucky这个词. 但其实关于幸运的表达方式还有很多，比如"Just right place, right time." 里面就有中文中“天时地利人和”的意思。如果你没费什么力气就得到了某样东西，也可以很潇洒地说"Just right place,
right time, no big deal." (只不过时间地点刚好对了而已， 没什么大不了的)
10. Same here. 我也是。
如果你认同某个人的观点，又不想重复一遍，一般大多数人都会用"Me too."或"So do I."来表达。但是这些表达方式已经被大家用“滥”了，比较酷的做法是用"same here."去代替前面提到的两种说法，因为意思完全等同，所以完全不必担心因歧义引起的误解。
