Today, it is extremely sweltering in Shanghai. The temperature rose all the way to 39 degrees C in the afternoon. But I still had to dine out for lunch because nobody would cook for me at home.

Surprisingly, the thunderstorm poured down on the way back home from the lunch place.As you could imagine, I did not take an umbrella with me. So I was soaked to the toes when I was finally home.

I don't know which was worse, I was caught in rain or the fact that I sold out my electric fan out of a rush for thinking it would be much cooler after the shower?

This morning I went to the English corner which is in the park near my home. It is three years since it was founded. I’ll try my best to learn English better, for it is so widely used in the world.

《英语日记》

日记的正文是日记的主要部分，写在星期和日期的正下方，可以顶格写，也可以内缩3至5个字母的空间。由于记载的内容通常已经发生，谓语动词多用一般过去时。但也可根据具体情况，用其它时态。如：记叙天气、描写景色，为了描写生动，可以使用现在时，以表现当时的情景。再如文后发表感想或评论可用现在时态或将来时态。记日记力求简单明了，有连贯性。若有文字提示，则应重视提示，把握要点。在句式上尽量使用简单句，以防繁杂，造成语法、句型错误。

一、英文日记格式

英文日记通常由书端和正文两个部分组成。日记常以第一人称记下当天生活中的所见、所闻、所做或所想的事情。中、英文的日记三格式大致一样。英语日记的书端是专门写日记的日期、星期和天气的。左上角是日期(年、月、日)、星期。右上角写上当天的天气情况，如：Sunny, Fine, Rainy, Windy, Snowy, Cloudy等。

1.日期表达有多种形式。年、月、日都写时，通常以月、日、年为顺序，月份可以缩写，日和年用逗号隔开。例如： December 18, 2003 或者 Dec. 18, 2003

A) September 1, 2004或September 1st, 2004也可省略写成Sept. 1, 2004或Sept. 1st, 2004；B)the 1st of September in 2004(月份不可以缩写)

B)只有月、日

September 1或September 1st(月份可以缩写)

C)只有年、月

September 2004或the September of 2004(月份不可以缩写)

以上的1或1st都应读作the first。

2.星期也可以省略不写，可将其放在日期前或后，星期和日期之间不用标点，但要空一格，星期也可缩写。如：

Saturday ,October 22nd, 2004；October 22nd, 2004 Saturday

3.天气情况必不可少。天气一般用一个形容词如 :Sunny, Fine, Rainy, Snowy 等表示。写在日期之后，用逗号隔开，位于日记的右上角。如：

Saturday, March 4, 2004, Windy；1st January, 2004, Fine

1. 注意日期、星期和天气的书写位置。

日期和星期要写在正文的左上角，其顺序多是“星期 + 月、日、年”，也有把星期放在后面的，如“ 2003 年 11 月 22 日，星期一”可写为“ Monday November 22， 2003 或 November 22， 2003 Monday ”。

日记的第一行，要写明年、月、日与星期，然后要写明当天的气候状况，如果是游记，还要写明地点。

这一部分中天气状况比较难写。下面是一些常用的描写天气的英语词语：

晴 clear 阴 overcast 多云 cloudy 小雨 light rain

大雨 heavy rain 毛毛雨 drizzle 阵雨 shower

《英语日记》

Dec.24 Thursday Sunny

This afternoon, I along with 5 group memebers in FESS(Free English Sunday School), went to the serve center for retired workers in Baiyun district to teach the retired workers for the last time this semester. We arrived at the center at about 2:15, finding that several students had arrived. We chatted to them until half past two when most students had arrived. Then we introduced ourselves again and decided that in the first class, we teached the words and conversations which we had planned. And in the second, we played games and ate things around the desk.

Maybe because it was the last class, both teachers and students were very enthusiastic, trying their best to finish the teaching as soon as possible. And senior sister apprentices are really experienced and good at teaching. I learnt a lot from them.

With the hard work of us all, our teaching task were perfectly finished. Then we began our games. First game was guessing words. In this game, our 12 students were devided into 2 groups. Each group sent one person a time and got a English word from our text, then the person would use body language to let the students from the other group to guess the word. It was really funny. All of us had a great time. After that we ate snacks the students brought for us. There were so many things to eat such as peanuts, biscuits, bananas and

oranges. Meanwhile, we played a game in which everyone read one word of a sentence by turn, and if someone fails to say the right word, he will be punished by showing us a performance. Many people made mistakes including me. And they all sang songs for the other people except me. I played a small magic. The old really had a good voice and gave us many enjoyments.

Time flied especially when you are enjoying yourself. We stopped the game at half past four which supposed to be ended at 4 o’clock, and took a photo together.

What a day I had!

Dec.21 Monday windy

Tonight a big show called Here We Glow would be on in the Yunshan hall. The show was the evening party of our institute—SEIB(School of English International Business)for welcoming the freshmen and the new year. Though it might be late to welcome the freshmen, it avoids the waste of our time for study to prepare for two evenings. The evening began at 7 o’clock , but there were many students arrived ahead of the time to get a good position to have a good view to better enjoy the wonderful evening. The performaners include students and teachers from all of the four grades , even the

postgraduates had sent their representitives to sing songs, which was unprecedented. Besides, there were all kinds of performances striking the audiences. For instance, opusculums, hip-hop, musicals, rappings, indian dance, model show, chorus and pop songs. My favorite shows are the indian dance, model show and hula. The indian dance was performed by girls from our dance troupe, which was amazing. Every girl has a beautiful figure and a soft waist like snake. In the model show, the fascinating costums caught my eyes immediately the show began. Evening dresses, cheongsams and business suits keep our too busy to blink. As for the hula, it was more than professional, which was performed by a foreign couple from Hawaii. They two both are teachers in our institute. The man sang songs as he played the guitar. His wife danced to the music. Though it was cold,they wore little clothing as if they were enjoying the sunshine at the beach in Hawaii. And their great performance really made us feel that we were on a wonderful tour in Hawaii.

Nevertheless, I didn’t watch the whole evening. I leaved about 20 minutes earlier , thinking that so many people would leave after the evening that there would never be enough public bathroom for us to have a bath.

Dec.22

Today was our traditional festival “Dongzhi”, which means the union of the whole family in ancient time. According to the scient study, the day of today is the shortest in the year , while the night is the longest in the northern hemisohere. Our school was in a warm festival atmosphere. Students sent blessing notes to each other. Many of them got together at cafeteria , eating dumplings, when the night appraoched. As a result, the cafeteria was crowed with people, which was really unusual and surprised me. However, it was really a pity that I didn’t organize a class activity because I had thought that few people would observe “dongzhi”, an informal festival. Besides, to be frank, I am afraid of organizing activity in my class because every time I did so, many people didn’t take part in it for some personal reasons which was kind of unacceptable for me. But I have no way out, since they are adults, having their freedom. In a word, our class is not united enough. And activity is the most efficient way to promote our connection and enhance our relationship. So it is a dilemma to me!

Dec.29

Tonight our class got together in the cafeteria to make dumplings. Yesterday we had negotiated with the chef and reached an agreement

that they provided ingredients and helped us cook the dumplings. So, our task was just to make and eat dumplings. Though it was raining, most students and our mentor arrived on time. We chatted with each other as we wait for the ingredients and tools. When everyting was ready, we started to make dumplings. It was completely fresh to me because I had just eaten dumplings but never leant how to make it. But it seemed quited familiar to most girls in our class, so they taught me. First , put some meat stuffing onto the flour piece. Then fold it into half. Next , dip water with your finger to the margin of the flour piece. Finally, glue it step by step. It looked quite easy. But it was hard to shape it nicely especially for me, a green hand. The dumpling I made can hardly stand, which was laughed by others. Everyone was busy with the dumlings, saticefied and happy. Practice makes perfect. I ought to make more to practice, but I needed to take photos and videos in memory of the harmonious and happy moment. It was really rare to see all my classmates take an active part in an activity and even rarer to see them all have such a great time. Having made the dumlings, we ate snacks and fruit bought by Linda,our mentor and at the same time, had small talks in the good mood. In a short while, the steamed dumplings were ready. We all couldn’t wait to eat them. It was much more delicious than we had expected.

The picture sets us thinking deeply : our society is made up of many people who have different personality and characters . If we want to create a harmonious society ,we must live in harmony with others . On the other hand , since everybody is related to others , we should be responsible for what we say and what we do so that we can develop a pleasant relationship with others , which makes it possible for us to enjoy life to the fullest .

Boys and girls ,

Today I‘ll talk about our English club . Our English club was set up two months ago . Now we have members of 25 . We meet once a week on Saturday afternoon. So far we have conducted a variety of activities on English learning , such as watching English films , holding a Christmas party and getting together with foreign students .

Last week we held an English story-telling competition . We required that the entries be original and interesting and be presented in English within five minutes . Every member took an active part in the activity . Two foreign English teachers were invited to act as judges . At last Li Ping won the first place . Many members said the activity benefited them in many ways . Not only did it improve their spoken English ,but also it brought them much fun . They hope many such activities can be held .
